Building the Brand That Powers Toma's Next Stage

3-pronged approach that tells authentic stories, amplifies culture, and attracts top engineers — all tied together with consistent, unmistakable execution.

Thanks for scrolling — curiosity builds brands (and great engineers).
The 3-Pronged Approach
Among the many priorities for the Founding Brand Marketer, I see three that stand out as immediate opportunities: share powerful customer stories, make the energy inside Toma visible online, and build recruiting campaigns that highlight and attract engineering talent. Together, these turn the brand into a magnet for the right people and opportunities.
Turn Customers Into Advocates
The secret sauce is to lean into those star customers and facilitate meaningful, lasting relationships with them. When someone inside a large organization feels valued and empowered to drive wins for their team, they become a powerful ally—especially in a land-and-expand strategy. Plus, building advocates is cheaper than buying ads, and way more fun.

Make the Toma Energy Visible Online
Culture can be one of Toma’s biggest advantages — it fuels how the team builds, solves problems, and wins together. Even in an in-person environment, creating a digital layer of culture helps people feel connected and proud of where they work. Capture quick clips and photos from all-hands, milestones, and everyday moments that show the real energy behind the product. These stories strengthen culture internally and double as authentic recruiting content.
• Document debates, breakthroughs, and milestones
• Launch a regular Inside Toma series with quick clips and mini stories
• Capture rituals like all-hands and team wins
• Create a content strategy for social channels that highlights Toma's culture and energy
• Humanize the team to attract both engineers and customers
Make Engineers Want to Be Here
Showcase the caliber and personality of Toma’s engineering team through storytelling that highlights who they are and the challenges they’re solving. Create dedicated, consistent content (the kind of content that naturally gets shared) across the website and social channels that attracts top talent and drives referrals.
Strengthen and scale the "Toma Team Spotlight” story series on LinkedIn
• Expand the storytelling of engineers’ backgrounds, quirks, and side projects
• Publish technical challenges through blogs and video sessions
• Lean into a founder marketing aspect with recruiting, inviting people into your process
A Magnetic Brand That Scales With Toma
The result is a brand that consistently attracts both customers and engineers, with authentic content a scrappy team can actually sustain. Every touchpoint — whether a social post, job ad, or customer story — feels unmistakably Toma.
Who I Am
I’m David Chin, a brand and creative leader with 10+ years scaling startups. At Mural, I joined as the first creative hire and helped grow the brand from startup stage to unicorn, building a global creative team along the way. I’m also a culture nerd — passionate about creating strong, connected teams and bringing that culture to life through brand and storytelling. I’ve helped build culture both in-person and across distributed teams, leading brand evolutions through periods of fast growth and constant change. Most recently, I’ve been leading brand and creative work at a social media agency, but I’m excited to return to an early-stage team where I can build something big.

Quick highlights:
• Scaled Mural’s brand from scrappy startup → global unicorn
• Built and led a distributed creative agency inside the company
• Helped shape and scale company culture across remote and in-person teams
• Led brand evolutions and executions through rapid growth
• Launched award-winning campaigns that drove growth

Toma feels like the kind of ambitious, tight-knit team where I do my best work. Since our earlier chats were short, I'd love to continue the conversation and explore how I can help amplify what you're building.
